Etikinya is the Maasai word for sunshine – and Miriam's Etikinya "Sunburst" Necklace was created using Kazuri beads that glow like a yellow and gold Monet painting of the blazing African sun. A touch of Fresh Water Pearls accent the Mother-of-Pearl glaze on the beads.  Kazuri is the Swahili word for "small and beautiful"... And Kazuri beads are truly beautiful. Each bead is hand painted in golden yellow, vivid yellow, light yellow and buttercup - and then glazed with a Mother-of-Pearl finish.

  • The wavy discs are 22-23mm in diameter and approximately 6-7mm deep.
  • The smaller beads are 10-12mm in diameter.
  • Delicate Fresh Water Pearls compliment the glowing ceramic beads with their own satin finish.
  • This stunning and unique necklace is strung on a strong and very flexible 0.014-inch, 21-strand stainless steel wire that is nylon coated.

Matching Bracelet and Earrings may be available by special order.

The ETIKINYA series is the latest in Miriam's AFRICAN DREAMS ceramic jewelry. Miriam designs these one-of-a-kind necklaces using handcrafted ceramic KAZURI BEADS imported from Kenya. Lady Sarah Wood and two African women began making the colorful beads in 1975 on the lawn of Isak Dinesen's Kenyan coffee plantation, the same plantation seen by millions in the well-known movie "Out of Africa." Today, this bead business offers employment and income for more than 200 Kenyan women living near the foothills of Mt. Kenya, who are often the sole providers for their children and families. Each bead is shaped by hand from clay - fired, painted, fired and glazed, and then fired again in an electric kiln. Up to five different colors may be used on one bead to create the pattern, and no two beads are exactly alike. Kazuri's beautifully finished products are made to an international standard... And Kazuri is a member of the Fair Trade Act.
