Rose and Pink Quartz
Rose and Pink Quartz are the rosy pink varieties of Quartz, which comes in a rainbow of colors as well as crystal clear. The pink to rosy red color is completely unique, unlike any other pink mineral species. The pink color is usually soft, ranging from very light pink to medium pink in intensity. Most stones are hazy (or turbid) and translucent—too cloudy to be used as a cut gemstone. In fact, a clear gemstone quality Rose Quartz is rare. The darker rosy red color of rose quartz is attributed to microscopic inclusions of a pink variety of the mineral Dumortierite. These inclusions are usually abundant enough to make the rose quartz translucent instead of transparent. Interestingly, although Rose Quartz cabochons are popular in "craft" jewelry, Rose Quartz is seen far less often in designer jewelry—Its pink color thought not to contrast strongly with metal settings.
