There is a legend that Dragon Blood Jasper (Bloodstone) is the remains of deceased ancient dragons, probably because even the most polished stones have a rough and craggy surface like the legendary dragon’s skin—the range of forest greens being the skin, and the deep red matrix of iron oxide being the dragon’s blood.The stone is mined in South Africa, China, and Australia. Another variety of this craggy lizard skin-like stone is called Septarian Dragon Stonewhich is white and brown, sometimes in shades of olive green. While the names of these natural stones are often interchanged, The Mineralogical Society of American lists them as two distinctive crystalline structures. Septarian Dragon Stoneis a form of sedimentary rock; Bloodstone (or Dragon Blood Jasper)is a form of Chalcedony.
