Moukaite is an exciting member of the jasper family because its colorations may range from opaque earth tones of golden yellows, terra cotta reds, deep burgundy wine, mauves and creams—to every shade in between. Some stones show striking patterns of more than one color! Moukaite is mined only in Australia. It is also known as Mookite, Mookaite Jasper, and Hicorite Jasper. This beautiful stone forms in the erosion areas of mountains as a filler in cracks. The various colors come from the foreign material that make up the stone, such as sand, clay and iron.
