Sporty Brown and Red Flower Agate and Mushroom Rhyolite Necklace for Women and Men (EAR-002)
The design of this necklace could be called Boho Chic or Rustic. Either way, Miriam’s design and the stones she selected show the beautiful range of soft colors typical of Flower Agates, and the natural patterns unique to Mushroom Rhyolite, which she chose as the center stone of this necklace. The handmade bronze beads and carved bronze clasp Miriam selected add a distinctive artistic expression to her one-of-a-kind. As it ages, bronze develops a beautiful patina that enhances the individual character of each piece.
- Full length of the necklace is 18.5 inches, including the handwrought, carved bronze clasp.
- Freeform center stone is a Mushroom Rhyolite measuring 1-1/8 inches long and ¾ inches at its widest point.
- The eight oval tube shaped beads in shades of brown and red, are approximately 1.5 inches long and approximately 3/8 inches in diameter at the center.
- The handwrought bronze spacer beads are 0.25 inches long and approximately 2/8 inches in diameter.
- The necklace is strung on a strong antique metallic bronze-colored 49-strand stainless steel flexible wire that is nylon coated.
- Other findings (crimps, crimp caps & jump rings) are antique bronze coated metal.
Flower Agate is a Moss Agate that shows a natural flower or fluffy fern-like pattern of color against a translucent backgound. These patterns form due to the presence of manganese and iron oxides. Colors may range from soft brown to deep red, dark to dove or blue gray, and very dark mauve or burgundy—and clearly display both opaque and translucent areas. Rhyolite begins in a molten state as lava flows onto the surface of stone and moves forward. The forward movement may be what gives an allusion of flowing color that is so characteristic of this stone, which exits naturally in mottled colors of brown, mossy green, and a deep rusty-red. Mushroom Rhyolite gets its name from the small fungal-like shapes in gray to brown, which are usually bordered with red halos—and occasionally brecciated (solidified) with quartz against a green background. The center stone, like all the stones, are reversible— the photo shows both beautifully colored sides of the Rhyolite. Miriam used Old World Bronze™ beads that are handcrafted using an old-world wax method, and an exclusive bronze recipe developed by the Charveaux family of metalsmiths in Scottsdale, Arizona.
