The chunky rustic stones in this natural Green Serpentine necklace contrast beautifully with the smooth, shiny Black Onyx Miriam used to highlight the natural black spotted and veined matrix of the Serpentine. This one-of-a-kind necklace is a natural dark-to-light green with a splash of yellow-green stones. Handwrought bronze spacers have a beautiful natural patina that enhances with age – and creates a soft glow around the Black Onyx.
About Serpentine: The origin of this stone’s name is derived from the Latin serpentinus, or "serpent rock." There are many varieties of Serpentine, with varied characteristics and colorations. There are combinations (as shown in this necklace) of yellow-green, bright green, and olive green with red, bright yellow (often referred to as Yellow “Turquoise”), Lemon “Jade,” and Green-Teal. Serpentine is also known to form naturally in combination with Lapis and Pyrite. Some Serpentine may also show high amounts of Quartz inclusions, giving it a lustrous glow. This versatile stone is found in many places around the world, including Canada (Quebec), Afghanistan, Britain, Cyprus, Greece, China, France, Korea, Austria, India, Myanmar (Burma), New Zealand, Norway, Italy—and in the United States in Maryland and Pennsylvania.
Old World Bronze™ is handwrought using ancient methods of casting bronze that have been modernized by the Charveaux family of metalsmiths in Scottsdale, Arizona. Utilizing their carefully developed bronze formula, and the age-old “lost wax” method, each bronze bead is artistically designed and handcrafted.
- Full length of the necklace is 19.5 inches, including the S-clasp and artistic bronze connectors.
- Chunky Serpentine stones measure from 10mm to 15mm and vary in thickness.
- Black Onyx puffed rondelles are 15mm, and 6mm thick at the centers.
- The 14 handwrought Bronze spacers are lightly textured and measure approximately 8-9mm.
- The Clasp and connectors (like the round spacers) are Old World Bronze™.
- The necklace is strung on a strong but flexible antique bronze 0.024 49-strand stainless steel wire that is nylon coated.
- Bracelet and matching earrings are available by special order only.
