This Dramatic Red Garnet Necklace sparkles in the sunlight, candlelight, and moonlight. Whether worn during the day or evening, Miriam’s design is graceful, exquisite, and timeless. The necklace may lie loosely around the neckline, or twisted to wear as a choker. Based on their beautiful ruby-red and blood-red colors, Miriam thinks the Garnets in this six-strand necklace are most likely Pyrope Garnets from Arizona.
  • Worn loosely, necklace length is 19.5 inches.
  • It may also lie from 16 to 18 inches, depending on how tightly it’s twisted.
  • The six strands are composed of 4mm to 6mm Natural Red Garnet Rondelles, Pebbles, Chips, Squares, and Rough-cut Flat Marquise.
  • Each of the six strands is accented with a variety of 3mm to 4mm Sterling Silver beads.
  • Sterling Silver beads near the clasp are 4mm rounds.
  • The Sterling Silver clasp is shaped like graceful trailing ivy.

Pyrope Garnets are blood-red and most closely resemble Rubies. These beautiful stones were originally found in Bohemia (Czech Republic), where it is no longer mined. Other sources are USA (Arizona), South Africa, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Myanmar, Scotland, Switzerland, Tanzania and China. There are three other "Red" Garnets in the Red and Red-Orange family of Garnets:
  • Almandine Garnets can be brownish-red, red-orange, and purplish-red, and may have small black inclusions or rutile (needle-like crystals).
  • Rhodolite Garnets are not truly Garnets, but a combination of Almandine and Pryrope Garnets. Its stunning rose- and raspberry-red, purple-pink, or red color does not have any browntones. It was first discovered in North Carolina in the late 1890s. Today, its best source for very clear varieties is Tanzania, but other sources are Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Brazil, Myanmar, China, Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, and South Africa.
  • Spessartite Garnets are brilliant orange to red-orange and can also contain feather or lace-like liquid droplets, or crystal inclusions. It was originally found in Spessart, Germany in the Bavarian mountains. There is also a brownish-red variety that is often confused with Hessonite, a rich orange-brown.
