Distinctive Abstract Yellow Dendritic Agate Necklace with Textured Bronze (YEL-018)
The beautifully graduated-cut Yellow Dendritic Agates in this necklace lie flat around your neck. The stones are complemented by amazing textured bronze marquise-shaped beads. Each stone shows its natural rustic characteristics, with a different pattern of branch or fern-like markings called dendrites—formations of iron or manganese oxide inclusions that crystallize within the stone. Most of the stones are opaque, but several of the stones may show some typical agate translucency. The actual term dendrite comes from the Greek 'dendron', meaning “tree.” The famous Russian jeweler Carl Faberge made use of this stone in combination with diamonds and other precious gems.
- Full length of the necklace is 17.5 inches, including the artistically-shaped bronze clasp.
- The largest of these graduated abstract-shaped stones measures 23mm and graduate down to 14mm. They are approximately 4mm thick.
- The bronze marquise-shaped beads handwrought and measure approximately 20mm x 10mm.
- Small accent beads are various agates that complement the Yellow Dendritic Agate.
- The necklace is strung on a strong antique metallic brass-colored flexible 49-strand stainless steel wire that is nylon coated.
Yellow Dendritic Agate is considered an agate even though it does not have the banded appearance that is common with most agates. But as an agate, it contains small crystalline areas that may show some translucency when held up to the light. The particular stones used in Miriam’s necklace might have been mined in Wyoming (Trapper Creek Dendritic Agate), which typically is golden yellow to tan with small black dendrites, or in the Homedale area of Southwestern Idaho near the Graveyard Point Plume Agate beds. Dendritic agate is also found in several locations throughout the western and southwestern US. Another interesting note: Dendritic agate (from Kazakhstan) is prized in Russia as a stone of long life, good health and prosperity.
The bronze beads and clasp are Old World Bronze (TM), which is handwought using an old-world wax method, and an exclusive bronze recipe developed by the Charveaux family of metalsmiths in Scottsdale, Arizona.
