Stunning Black Tourmaline Pebble Necklace has a combination of Brass and Sterling Silver accents is sleek and beautiful! Miriam's Signature Swirl is woven into the African Brass Pendant. The African Brass Pendant is beautifully crafted using a wax casting method, which is considered a lost art. The bronze beads used to accent the necklace are Old World Bronze(TM), which also is handwought using an old-world wax method, and an exclusive bronze recipe developed by the Charveaux family of metalsmiths in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The Dutch imported tourmaline from Sri Lanka in 1703 to Western and Central Europe. The new gems were name Turamali, a Sinhalese word that is thought to mean "mixed colors.” An appropriate name, as there are many varieties of Tourmaline recognized in the trade today: Black (schorl), which is the most common variety, blue (indicolite), pink and red (rubellite), brown (dravite), green, multicolored, and even a white variety. "Watermelon Tourmaline" is a crystal with green on the outside and pink in the middle. Today, Tourmaline is found in many countries, including Burma, United States, Brazil, and Zimbabwe.
