Black Onyx is Chalcedony, a cryptocrystalline Quartz. Although it is often thought of as an all-black stone, most Black Onyx has a very pale, translucent or darker white banding. It is rare to find all black stones, and most of the solid black onyx on the market has been artificially colored. This stone has been both revered and feared throughout history. It is referenced in sacred texts and historical manuscripts, and is mentioned in the Bible. In some regions, such as China, it was feared for centuries as a bad luck stone.
